Dazai wasn't exactly sure, but he wanted to find something pretty important today. A friend, that is.

Although it may not look like it at first glance, silent people have their own interests, dreams and everything, too. You know the saying 'Quiet people have the loudest minds'? It's true. Frankly, Dazai had never been too fond of people with their weird judgements and social cues. He felt as though everything was one big inside joke no one ever thought of invtiting him into.

Therefore, to escape the stupid comments of the talkative ("Oh my God, you can talk!?"), he was going to aim for someone who spoke just as little as he did in school. Someone who might understand him and won't view him as strange. That 'someone' was actually no one other than you.

The both of you always sat on a bench during p.e., staring holes in the air, the floor, the ceiling or whatever. You weren't allowed to participate thanks to your health issues, which was honestly a relief. Sports were too much of a hassle.

Occasionally, you'd always steal a glance at the other, though only for less than a second each time. Dazai was not exactly sure what to think of you, but how would he be able to form an opinion about you anyway, when you never exchanged a word other than some mumbled, shy "Hello"? But one thing he was sure about was that you must've felt the same ambivalence he did.

This time, a few minutes after the p.e. lesson began, he didn't sit down on the opposite side of the bench like he usually did. Now, he shifted a bit closer to you on the bench, so he was practically sitting right next to you. Dazai was nearly positive that his heart's fast pounding might just be louder than the whole classes shoes steadily hitting the wooden floor.

He wanted to say something, but somehow no words could leave his mouth. So, instead of speaking out a planned, polite "Hi, how are you?" he was only able to awkwardly stare at you. Out of sheer embarrassment, the boy felt as if he could explode right there and then.
