You laid back against your bed, phone in hand, eyes lazily tracing the ceiling. The soft hum of conversation passed easily between you and Aventurine—light, easy topics like books, odd dreams, the latest drama from people neither of you really cared about.

His responses came slower. Shorter. His usual sharpness softened at the edges. And underneath the playful hum of his voice, you could hear it—his breathing, uneven and heavy.

A beat of silence before another response from him followed.

The air between you both held a quiet charge now, something unreadable lingering in the pause that followed.
You furrowed your brows in confusion as thoughts slowly invaded your mind, leaving you wondering in the silence between you and Aventurine.
Just what was he doing??
