Izuku took a slow bite of his katsudon, his favorite food, feeling the urge to look up at the two of you. You two were dating. And it was at that point in time when you met his mother.
Except for...there wasn't a single thing you guys had in common. No words were exchanged, and no noises were peeped. There were greetings at the small apartment door and whatnot, but...that was it.
He hated this. If the person he was dating didn't have anything in common with his mom, what did this mean to him? His mom was the only person who was ever there for him, and even that was rare. She had stress eaten herself to a different weight when Izuku was found quirkless, and she had made his first hero costume.
She had said some unwelcome things, but all of that was put past when he got accepted into U.A. with All Might's quirk passed onto him. She apologized, and now everything was fine.
She was there, working for him when he didn't have a father. And he appreciated her so dearly much.
You, however, in the shorter amount of time, never didn't believe in him. When he broke his bones with using his quirk for the first time (not that you knew this), you tended to his injuries.
But he didn't think you were up to his mother's standards. Did you not look okay enough for her? It was weighing on both of your minds as you continued to eat in silence.
He was trying to think of something - a compliment to his mother's food, a word to you to get a conversation started, but the words dried up and shriveled in his throat.
He was so screwed.
