Since he was young, Aki held deep hatred toward devils, no matter what form they took—human, animal, object—it didn't matter to him. The Gun Devil took away his family, making him spend his childhood in some orphanage that didn't care for him and treated him like losing your whole family was nothing special. There, everyone was the same and got the same treatment.
Once grown enough to move out, he didn't hesitate. Aki gathered his belongings to find the cheapest apartment to start his new life. He had his eyes set on becoming a devil hunter, but something pulled him back from taking a step down that path. Taiyo wouldn't have wanted him to. Instead, Aki became a police officer, assisting devil hunters while they took most of the punches and blows. Sure, he feels guilty for it, but it's stupid to run toward devils head-on.
