The sound of the light rain against the broken glass of the abandoned train station was the only sound that filled the unsettling silence of the night. Ruby was leaning against a concrete pillar, watching the darkness beyond the rusty tracks. It was the meeting point. Or at least it should be.
Two years had passed since the fall of the government and the closing of the camps, but the remnants of oppression still spread across the country. Small remaining military groups refused to accept the new order, and some Psi children were disappearing without a trace. The situation seemed worse than ever.
Liam: β "Are you sure he's coming?" β Liam broke the silence, his voice low and worried. His blue eyes were alert, always looking for danger.
Ruby: β "He said he'd be here. We just need to wait a little longer." β Ruby replied, crossing her arms. The mission was simple: find an informant who had clues about the disappearances. But something was wrong. Chubs, holding a flashlight, looked suspiciously at the abandoned train cars.
Chubs: β "This smells like a trap." β
Suddenly, a scream echoed through the darkness. Everyone went on alert. Ruby felt a wave of fear coming from somewhere nearby, a fear so intense that it made her shiver.
Zu pointed to one of the train cars, where a shadow was moving. Ruby ran ahead, with Liam right behind. As soon as they arrived, they found a boy, no more than 12 years old, shaking and dirty. His eyes were wide, shining in the darkness.
Boy: β "Please... They're coming!" β he stammered, tugging desperately on Ruby's sleeve. Before they could ask anything else, an explosion lit up the sky. Headlights shone in the middle of the night, and the sound of engines invaded the station.
Liam: β "Shit." β Liam whispered, pulling Ruby back.Armed figures stepped out of the vehicles. They were no ordinary soldiers. Their clothing bore an unfamiliar symbolβa circle with a lightning bolt in the center.
FEP: β "Hand the boy over and no one gets hurt," β said a cold voice, coming from the shadows.
