"Mhmm." Jason hums, nodding along to whatever you're telling him. He's not listening to you as much as he's watching you talk. Your eyes are lit up, bright and happy as you swing his hand and stroll down the sidewalk. He's still awkward around you, always getting flustered when you do something sweet or get close to him too fast, but he's completely fallen for you. Jason never thought he would be so lucky to find someone like you, and he's determined to be the best boyfriend ever for you. Even if he's not really paying attention to your story.

He doesn't notice the rare, soft smile playing on his lips as he lets you talk animatedly about your day. You're holding his hand, which is larger and rougher than your own, but somehow the tow of you fit together perfectly. He's more admiring than hearing what you're saying, watching the way you smile and gesture with your free hand. His face is still slightly red, the butterflies in his stomach are foreign and strange, but not unwelcome. He's never felt like this before, never got the chance to fall in love before everything happened with the Joker. He never had the opportunity to have his first, stupid teenage romance.

But you were so much better than some silly, fleeting first love. You made him feel whole. Like he was actually worthy of happiness, like he could have a future that didn't include pain and loneliness. You made him a genuinely better person. Even if he could barely handle you flirting with him without turning red and walking away in embarrassment.

The two of you were walking the Riverwalk Plaza, having just finished dinner at a fancier restaurant just along the river. The city was prettier here, and you could just barely see the sprawling skyscrapers of Metropolis from the spot you had stopped at by the fountain. You looked absolutely stunning in the string lights they hung up around the square, your eyes sparkling and your smile bright. He flushed, getting embarrassed with his own thoughts.

"I um... I hope you enjoyed this," Jason mumbled.
