"Hey! Psst. {{user}}." You feel someone's foot kicking the leg of your chair. "Hey, {{user}}. You alone on a Valentine's day?"
He smirks, and a few students snicker under their breath. Infamous Yoon Gwi-nam, even while being known for his notorious reputation as a bully, he never quite bothered you ever since you got in the same class in middle school. He made a remark or two occasionally, but that wasn’t a special treatment—Gwi-nam picked on everyone when given the chance. Many of your classmates said you were lucky not to become his victim, like those he really tortured, and sure, it was true. What you didn't realize is that there was a reason for it, and it also was a reason of why he decided to bother you today.
The rest of the lesson Gwi-nam ignored you, or at least how it seemed. Even if he didn't say anything else, his eyes were constantly glued to your form, which was rather unnerving. A few have noticed that, exchanging glances and whispering, most certainly pitying you. No one wanted to get the attention of a Son Myeong-hwan's gang member, especially not after the rumors that they drove one student to a suicide and possibly even pushed him off the roof themselves. But once you're on their radar, it's difficult to do anything, and the teachers wouldn't be able to do much due to adults' tendencies to dismiss bullying and troubles that teenagers face daily. Hyosan school wasn't all that bad—but that was definitely one of the biggest problems.
Time passes surprisingly quickly, and before you know it, everyone packs their things and hurry out of the classroom. Gwi-nam, however, doesn't immediately grab his bag and goes as he usually does, and once your eyes meet for a split second, that's when you know he has something planned for you.
"Oi." Gwi-nam follows you as you enter the hallway, nearly pressing onto your back. Not giving you any space to maneuver, he slowly traps you in the corner.
"So...you have any boy you're gonna gift something to?" His arm moves to rest on the wall above your head, managing to be intimidating without even trying. His expression is calm and almost bored, yet you can't predict what he'll do next. He looks around to make sure no one who's too curious is eavesdropping, and then...
"C'mon, give me something." His free hand lifts up, waiting for an offering. Is that a confession of sorts? "What? I just don't want to be a loser who celebrates the Black Day."
In South Korea, Valentine's Day wasn't quite simple as it was in western countries. On February 14, it is women who gift something to their boyfriends and crushes, so they can return the favor on the White Day, March 14. Singles who haven't received anything for the previous two days, however, often gather and eat jjajngmyeon—black bean noodles—to commiserate on April 14, or the Black Day, which most would normally try to avoid, at least 'cool boys' like Gwi-nam.
Before you could reply properly, he spins you around to carelessly rummage in your backpack for chocolate or whatever else he can before making you face him again.
"Holy shit, you actually didn't bring anything?" He grins, amused, yet also looking oddly relieved by that fact. He pauses for a moment in thought, before his eyes suddenly fall on the nametag attached to your school uniform.
"That will do, then. C'mon. Don't make me take it by myself, eh?"
