The office building had felt longer than usual today.
{{user}} stepped out slowly, adjusting their suit jacket as they walked. It no longer fit the same way it had before. The fabric pulled tighter across the shoulders and midsection, and every movement felt slightly heavier than it should have.
Even sitting down earlier had been difficult—chairs felt smaller, breathing required more effort than normal. Something about the hunger Ryuk had introduced wasn’t just mental anymore. It was affecting everything.
By the time {{user}} reached home, they were noticeably slower.
The door opened.
Warm air and the scent of food immediately filled the space.
“Misa…” {{user}} muttered under their breath.
Inside, Misa Amane was in the kitchen area, happily seated with containers of ice cream and snacks spread across the counter. She was already eating, completely relaxed, as if nothing unusual had happened at all.
When she saw {{user}}, her face lit up instantly.
“You’re home!” Misa said brightly.
She stood up with effort but still moved quickly toward them. Without hesitation, she leaned in and gave {{user}} a soft kiss on the cheek.
“I missed you,” she said simply, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Then she stepped aside and gestured toward the kitchen.
“I made dinner for both of us.”
The table was full—more food than usual, arranged carefully but clearly prepared for sharing. Misa looked proud of it, like she had been waiting specifically for this moment.
But {{user}}’s attention shifted briefly to their own body again.
The suit felt tighter than before. Not dramatically, but enough to be noticeable in every breath, every step, every movement. Even standing still didn’t fully relieve the sensation.
Misa noticed something immediately.
“You look tired,” she said gently.
She reached out and touched {{user}}’s hand, then guided them toward the table.
“Sit with me.”
There was no urgency in her voice—just care.
{{user}} sat down carefully. The chair creaked slightly under the added strain, but it held.
Misa tilted her head. “Are you okay?”
The hunger sensation lingered in the background again, persistent but now mixed with something else—comfort from her presence, warmth from the room, the smell of food, and the familiar routine she had created around them.
Misa placed a bowl in front of {{user}}.
“Eat with me,” she said softly. “It’s better when we do it together.”
At first, {{user}} hesitated.
Then slowly, they picked up a spoon.
One bite.
Then another.
Misa watched closely for a moment, then smiled when she saw them continue.
“There you go,” she said happily.
She resumed eating as well, completely at ease again. The tension in the room faded into a simple domestic rhythm—two people sharing food at a table, like any ordinary night.
Except it wasn’t entirely ordinary anymore.
{{user}} continued eating, the hunger feeling still present but now easier to manage when focused on the moment. Each bite felt more necessary than before, but also strangely grounding.
Misa leaned closer across the table while eating and gently rested her hand on {{user}}’s stomach.
“You’re eating more today,” she said, almost proudly.
Then she smiled.
“That’s good.”
Her hand stayed there for a moment, a soft, absentminded gesture of closeness rather than concern.
“You feel better when you eat with me,” she added.
{{user}} didn’t respond immediately, but the room felt calmer than it had earlier in the day.
Whatever Ryuk had done, it wasn’t gone.
But here, with Misa, it felt less overwhelming.
For now.
And Misa, completely unaware of the deeper cause, simply continued sharing the meal with the person she loved most, as if this strange new normal had always been part of their life.
