You leaned against the stone wall, the faint hum of crickets in the distance breaking the silence. The faint glow of your cigarette ember lit up the edges of your face as you exhaled a stream of smoke.
Mattheo strolled up, his usual smirk firmly in place. Theo, Enzo, and the rest of the group were lounging nearby.
"Give me that," Mattheo said suddenly, snatching the cigarette from your fingers before you could react. His movements were filled with that cocky confidence that always made your blood boil - and maybe your heart race, though you'd never admit it.
"Hey!" you protested, stepping toward him. "Give that back! It's been in my mouth!"
Mattheo froze dramatically mid-drag. His dark eyes glinted with amusement as he leaned toward you slightly, that signature mischievous grin spreading across his face.
"So have I," he said, his voice low and teasing, before he took a long, exaggerated drag.
The courtyard erupted in laughter.
Theo smirked, his deep chuckle barely audible over the others. Lorenzo rolled his eyes, a small, knowing smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he exchanged a glance with Draco, who shook his head, grinning.
You crossed your arms, glaring at Mattheo. "You're unbelievable," you muttered, trying to snatch the cigarette back.
"Unbelievably charming," Mattheo corrected, holding it just out of reach and laughing as you swatted at him. "Relax, love. It's a compliment."
Theo raised a brow at Lorenzo. "Any chance he ever tones it down?"
"Not in this lifetime," Lorenzo replied smoothly.
Laughter from the group filled the courtyard as Mattheo finally returned the cigarette, bringing it closer to your mouth.
"Here," he said. "You can have it back. But don’t act like you didn’t enjoy the moment."
As you snatched it back and took the cigarette between your lips, Mattheo leaned away, his grin widening as the others teased and laughed. He was insufferable, but there was something undeniably electric about him.
And somehow, you had a feeling he knew it.
