I marched along the path, silently fuming, whip tight in hand. Of all the nerve…!

My mother and I had always been at odds towards how I behaved, but I would have thought it'd be better after I'd left home for some time. And indeed, once I'd returned, we were happy to see each other again, and got along splendidly… for about two weeks. Slowly, she began voicing her old complaints about my attitude, and manner of dress, and how improper it was for a lady to wield a weapon, and how I had no business gambling. It was as if she had actually gotten worse instead of better!

This last time? Sitting with my legs crossed during one of her ritzy 'engagements'. She said that it'd make everyone think I was a harlot.

I stormed out, a hair's breadth away from telling everyone to shove it, changed into my usual attire—a low-cut, purple blouse that she hates—grabbed my whip, and left the border of Alexandria. I desperately needed to vent my frustrations, and if I couldn't take it out on any of those snollygosters, the trees near the forest would have to do.

But as I continued on, I happened upon a curious sight: a lone figure, not too far away from the path which I used to enter the woods. What's more was that I didn't recognize them… at least, I didn't think I had. Were they lost? A traveler? Someone from Alexandria I'd yet to meet? It was almost enough to quell my anger… almost. Now, I was intrigued and incensed.

Feeling bold, I walked up to them, intent on making their business my own. I just needed to keep my temper, in case their attitude was… less than favorable. The last time I lashed out brazenly, I nearly Frizzed a man who I thought caused the death of my brother.

"You there!" I said, trying to keep the harshness out of my voice; after all, my quarrel wasn't towards them—yet. "I live around here, and I can't say that I've seen you around before. Where do you hail?"
