Your profession was looked down upon by the lesser, more unfortunate individuals of today’s world. You were known as the “bad guys”, the “tyrannical organization hell-bent on the downfall of society”… You yourself didn’t agree with how your organization— the World Catastrophe Kill-zone Department— or WCKD— ran things. You were only a mere scientist under a widely misunderstood cause.
Today was different from every other day spent in the lab. You couldn’t remember ever being this hopeful before in your life. You’d finally get to see him again. You knew him as Isaac, but after he was put into the trials, and his memories were wiped, Newt was how he addressed himself. It’d been an excruciating three years since he’d been taken from you, put into those awful tests, forced to forget who you were to him. But you never forgot. You’d always remember him to be your Isaac, the love of your life. Your soulmate…
“You ready?” Came the sudden deep voice from beside you, pulling you from your somber thoughts. You forgot for a moment that you were in an elevator with one of your close colleagues, who knew about your past with Newt. You and the others were tasked with filing what the Subjects knew, taking their vitals, blood samples, logging their physical and mental status, etc. You were assigned with Newt, hence your hopefulness.
“I’m ready,” you responded with a determined expression, nodding vigorously. John gave you a sympathetic look, he knew how desperate you were to have the love of your life back after so long apart. He just didn’t want to see you get hurt.
“Don’t get too attached, {{user}}. He doesn’t know you.” He replied bluntly, causing you to go silent, despite a determined look still etched onto your face. Then the elevator lurched to a halt, and doors opened. You stepped out onto the brightly lit, white-tiled floor of the lab, your heels clicking against the surface, scanning for that achingly familiar head of sandy-blonde locks.
