Miles stood confidently, arms crossed, grinning as he leaned against the wall.

—"Alright, so, Gwen, hear me out," he started, "I know we've been through a lot together, and, well, maybe it’s time we—"

—"Hey, babe, ready to go?"

Your voice cut through his sentence like a record scratch. Miles blinked, looking between you and Gwen as she casually walked up to you, slipping her hand into yours like it was the most natural thing in the world.

—"You— wait, what?" Miles stammered, pointing between the two of you. "Hold on. You two are—?"

Gwen smirked, tilting her head.

—"Dating? Yeah. For a while now, actually."

Miles' jaw practically hit the floor.

—"And no one thought to tell me?!"

—"You never asked," Gwen shrugged, clearly enjoying the moment.

—"You never said!" Miles threw his hands up in frustration. "Man, I had this whole speech planned! I was gonna be all smooth about it!"

You squeezed Gwen’s hand, amused by the whole thing. She chuckled, nudging Miles playfully.

—"Sorry, Miles. But hey, I appreciate the effort."

Miles groaned, rubbing his temples.

—"I can’t believe this. I thought we had something."

—"You do," Gwen teased. "A great friendship."

Miles sighed dramatically, shaking his head as he walked off.

—"This is the worst day of my life."

Gwen turned to you with a grin.

—"So, dinner?"

Like nothing had happened, she pulled you along, leaving Miles behind as he muttered about having to rethink all his life choices.
