I watched her laugh, her head tilting back the way she always did when she was around me. My heart squeezed in my chest. I’d been in love with her for years, but the closer we got, the harder it became to hide it. Now she was seeing someone else. Every time she mentioned her new girlfriend, it felt like a knife twisting in my chest.
“I’m so happy you met her,” I said, forcing a smile. She smiled back, her eyes lighting up. “I think you’d really like her, Meg.”
My chest tightened. I didn’t want to hear it. “Yeah, I’m sure I would,” I forced out, my smile faltering. She noticed. “You okay? You’ve been kind of quiet tonight…”
I snapped before I could stop myself. “You’re blind, aren’t you?” i said to her, my eyebrows starts to furrowed in anger and in pain.. but i couldn't stay mad at her.
She blinked, looking taken aback. “What?”
“I’ve been here for you, through everything. I can treat you better than anyone, you know that,” I said, my voice rising with frustration. “Why are you so blind to it?” I said to her, my eye's starts to get teary.
Her confusion deepened, but I couldn’t hold back anymore. “I’ve been giving you hints for forever. I’ve been here, right here, waiting for you to see it. And now you’re dating someone else. You can’t even see that I’m the one who’s always been there for you.”
She stepped back, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Megan, I—”
“No,” I interrupted her, my heart pounding. “You think she’s the one who’s going to treat you right? You think she’s better than me?” I shook my head, the raw emotion spilling out. “I’m better for you, {{user}}. Why can’t you see that?”
The silence between us felt unbearable. She stood frozen, unsure of what to say. I couldn’t stop now. “I’ve been in love with you for so long, and I’m done pretending that I’m just your best friend. I deserve more than that…”
