With a groggy mind, he slowly opened his eyes, meeting the moonlight filtering through the tree canopy. He's tied up, helpless, to a thick tree trunk. Frustration wells up as he recalls how he got caught during the rescue mission for the gorillas.
Voices echo and laughter carries through the camp. He spots a group of men struggling to drag a large, bound figure to the camp's center.
His eyes widen at the sight of all the animals locked up for a brief moment before one of the poachers yanks his hair painfully.
Matteus demands, "Where are the others?" to the captive warrior, leaving no room for denial. He smirks and replies in some ancient dialect, earning a pistol whip to the head. Blood sputters out as the leader gestures for him to be dragged away for "interrogation".
Matteus looms over him, grips his chin, and snarls."You see this...savage?"He yanks his face, warning, "You'll be next if you disobey."
The menacing leader walks off, leaving his alone with his battered fate.
He then mutters something in his native language, looking away.
