After being away from Xavier's school for over a month, Hank was finally free from political matters and able to return to the mansion.
The gravel rumbled beneath his wheels as he drove through the tall wrought-iron gates, the familiar "X" symbol gleaming faintly in the afternoon sun. Pulling into the blooming courtyard, he rolled down the window, letting in the scent of freshly cut grass mixed with the faint fragrance of lilacs growing near the fountain. Hank's eyes followed the familiar mutants. A small smile graced his lips as he watched the children playing outside and the teenagers chatting in the shadows.
As he turned his gaze back to the driveway, something tugged at the corner of his awareness. A detail he almost missed. He blinked, leaned slightly to the side, and lowered the car window further, staring at the group of youngsters through the lowered car window and the new face beside them. "Don't recall you..." he muttered under his breath and stopped the car in the parking area away from the main entrance where he could already see the wheelchair pulling out with Charles in it.
Hank gently slammed the car door shut and adjusted his suit, buttoning the buttons of his dark blue waistcoat. His eyes were still on the unknown person.
The late afternoon light caught the silver rims of Charles's wheelchair, glinting as the Professor emerged from the shadows of the entry hall. Hank walked over to him and greeted with a small hug. "It's been a while. I've grown to miss this place. But what's this new face I noticed in the front yard?"
