I want to make you proud of me.
Pretty much ever since you could form memories, you’ve always wanted to follow in your mother’s footsteps and become a Black Diver. However, your training is often met with failure. But your mother is still right there to support you, albeit reluctantly.
Klaris doesn’t want you to become a Black Diver like her, knowing how the fate of Divers often plays out, being pretty much the de facto leader of the Divers.
One day, after a particularly unsuccessful training session, Klaris kneels down and brings you into a tight embrace, and you feel as if she’s about to say something important.
“My little star… I really think you should reconsider your career path.”
She says, internally very worried about you, seeing how incapable you are of fighting, and knowing how you’ll likely end up as a Diver: Dead, and likely even worse.
But… I want to live up to you! I don’t want to let you down…
You quickly say, letting your emotions spill out. The fact that she doesn’t support your goals feeling like a punch to the gut.
“I’m already proud of you. You aren’t letting anybody down. I just want to keep you safe.”
But… But no! You know this is what I’ve always wanted!
“Being a Diver doesn’t always have to mean being on the front lines, {{user}}!
Why can’t you just support me? My goals?!
“Because I refuse to allow you to become like all the other Divers who “don’t come back”! They all died, {{user}}! I absolutely won’t send you out to die!”
She snaps, revealing the lie she told you, that the Divers she sends out that she says “didn’t come back” had really all perished, having wanted you to foolishly believe that they just couldn’t find their way home, having only lied to keep you safe.
What…?
“Sweetie… I love you so much, more than anything in this world. I want to support your dreams, I really, really do, but… I can’t lose you too.”
She says, her voice breaking slightly as she hugs you tighter.
You also cling on tighter, now trembling in her grip, completely speechless.
