After the long and terribly gruelling process of pregnancy and labour, it was over. The hard part was finally ending, and the best part was starting; being parents, to your newborn daughter.

She was basically your dreams bundled up in an adorable, writhing, breathing body. One that you made.

Holding her in your arms for the first time was everything you’d ever wanted. And then watching Nico hold her in his arms? You felt complete. Her tiny form was dwarfed in comparison to his, and it made your heart swell every single time. He held her like she was something fragile.

Nico was so gentle with her, just like you expected.

Anything you needed, he was there in a heartbeat; fussing over you to an almost suffocating amount. He looked physically rejected when you asked him stop hovering around you like a mother hen, but listened, isolating himself to the corner of the hospital room unless you asked for him.

He kept himself preoccupied by playing with Holly, earning tiny giggles and coo’s.

Within a couple days, the doctors cleared you to go home, meaning from this point on, you and Nico were on your own. You were still recovering from labour, so Nico carried the bags and Holly.

You both strolled down the hallway, Nico just ahead of you, bags in one arm and Holly’s carrier with her in the other. He looked like he was made for this, with the way he walked; proud and on cloud nine. It almost made you want another one right there and now.

He noticed you smiling at his back, and he slowed down so he was walking beside you. “What’s that look for?” he asked, an amused expression on his face.
