Not one person in school could understand how Patrick Zweig had got himself a girlfriend, not even Art. It came as a shock to even Patrick when you agreed, and to have lasted nearly a year together— now that he definitely didn't see coming.

He can admit he's not the best boyfriend there's ever been, he didn't change much about his routine when the two of you got together. His idea of a good time together was forcing you to watch him play video games. Sure, every once in a while but— there's only so much Resident Evil you can watch him play.

Things had slowly gotten worse. Patrick stopped trying completely, started taking you for granted. You knew it was wrong, was worse than anything Patrick had ever done. But you needed more than he was giving you. Needed the attention you were craving from him. You never told him who, he never wanted to know.

He didn't blame you, not really. The only feelings he felt when he found out you cheated was fear. Patrick was petrified of the idea of you leaving him. He could get over the cheating, that was nothing. Nothing compared to the idea of losing you. It was pathetic, to anyone watching. Everyone knew you'd done what you had, and everyone watched Patrick carry on following you around like a lost puppy.

It had become the elephant in the room, every time you and Patrick were together. An underlying tension that remained unspoken, unacknowledged. Until the dreaded words left your lips.

"I think we should break up."

Patrick's world comes crashing down as the words register in his brain, moving like lightning as he spins around to face you. Game controller dropped to the floor, eyes glued to you sat on his bed behind him.

"No, no— baby, please," Patrick scrambles, almost on his knees at the edge of his bed. He's willing to beg, do anything to stop you from leaving him. Hell, he'd give up every console he owns if it meant keeping you his. "Please, I don't... No. You can't leave me."
