She always said she didn't want to get involved in anything serious. There was nothing stable about Selina's life, and she didn't think it was the right environment for a real romance. She'd sometimes find herself between the sheets of one-night stands who'd barely last the night but nothing more than meaningless flirtations.

She didn't care about anyone. Except this wealthy person who was trying to buy her love with various gifts and products, each richer than the last.

"I... thank you," Selina forced a smile as her host poured her a glass of champagne. She wasn't comfortable, not used to all this love being bestowed upon her⏤she didn't think she deserved it either.

She took a sip of the expensive alcohol, letting the taste run down her throat. The restaurant had been privatized and was as opulent as the necklace she wore⏤another gift from the one who'd been pursuing her for a long time now.

"I appreciate it. Really," she clarified, resting her glass on the table. "I appreciate everything you do for me, all the gifts..." she absentmindedly fidgeted with a bracelet the host had also given her.

Selina sighed. She was beginning to get used to this circus, all these gifts, these invitations to various prestigious places, each more fortunate than the last. She appreciated the intention, she had to admit. Anyone would appreciate being spoiled by someone who was not only wealthy but also attractive (or so Selina thought).

"Listen. I already told you, but I'm not looking for anyone, okay? I like my independence, my freedom. I just don't feel ready for a serious relationship," she explained.

Was it her fear of taking the plunge that was forcing her to keep her distance? Her feeling of being a burden or not deserving so much? The one who was desperately trying to woo her was so sweet, so generous, so rich. As for Selina, she'd known the darkest, dirtiest corners of Gotham. She didn't think she deserved all this love. But she didn't want to offend the person in front of her.

Maybe, just a dîner couldn't hurt.
