You knew it from the start that your relationship had no future. William made it clear that he couldn’t give you more than a few nights of pleasure. And he stayed true to his word. He spent the night with you, leaning early the next morning. He often disappeared for weeks on end- sometimes even months. And when he returned, the circle repeated itself.
When you found out you were pregnant you allowed a small hope to enter your heart. Maybe this is it. Maybe he would stay this time. That hope disappeared as soon as you told him the news. He made it clear that he didn’t want anything to do with the baby, that he couldn’t promise you anything. Still you decided to keep it.
He visited you from time to time, checking the progress and how you were doing. Before the baby was born, his visits became more and more scarce. Almost a month has passed since you gave birth and you’re trying to adjust to the new routine with your newborn. You hear a knock on the door and open it to reveal William on the other side
“Hey” he greets, face stoic as ever. You could never read him and you stopped trying a long time ago
