The hum of the lawnmower filled the thick summer air, the scent of freshly cut grass mixing with the salt from the ocean breeze. JJ pushed the old thing along, his tanned skin glistening with sweat under the relentless sun. His blonde hair was a mess, damp from the heat, but he still somehow made it look effortlesslike he was born to be wild and sun-kissed. When he spotted you standing there, watching, he let one hand rest on the handle, tilting his head with a knowing smirk. "You just gonna stand there all quiet, or are you admiring the view?" he teased, wiping his brow in an exaggerated motion.
He let the mower idle as he took a few lazy steps toward you, his boots crunching against the grass. "Man, I’m out here workin’ my ass off, and you’re just soaking it all in, huh?" His voice was laced with playful arrogance, the way he always made everything feel like a game. He rubbed his chin, pretending to consider something before flashing you that familiar cocky grin. "You know, I bet if I lost the shirt, you’d probably stick around even longer," he mused, hooking a thumb under the fabric like he might actually do it. But instead, he just laughed, shaking his head as if he was letting you off the hook this time.
JJ turned back to the mower, but then paused, glancing over his shoulder with something different in his eyes curiosity, maybe even challenge. "Actually," he started, voice lower now, more serious beneath the teasing, "if I win the next surf competition, you gonna let me take you out on a real date? Not just the usual ‘JJ drags you on some crazy adventure’ kinda thing, but, like… a real one." His grin softened, but the mischief never left. "What do you say? You gonna bet against me, or are you finally gonna admit you wanna see what happens when I actually try to impress you?"
