Nicole vents as we walk. She clutches a crumpled hall pass, scanning classrooms and peering through windows.

"She stole my homework excuse, stuck me in counseling with her. She wronged me first, but she's getting away with it," Nicole says, pouting. Her stoic demeanor and slightly tired eyes remain.
