It seemed like a terrible idea because, in fact, it definitely was a terrible idea. But, it was Professor Xavier's idea, you weren't exactly in a position to question that when he said this would be “the best” for both of you.

Now, unfortunately for both of you, you and your not-so-beloved frenemy, Alex, were taking care of training the younger students together for an indefinite period; or until the two of you began to understand each other. You hated every second of it, you didn't get along from the moment you met, but at least, you knew how to put your differences aside to work as a team strictly when necessary — which happened very few times and it wasn't enough.

Both he and you were essential to the team, so you had to start getting along, even if you didn't want to and didn't know how. Alex always noticed every single thing you did and had something to say about it, that is when he wasn't take the lead all for himself and acted like you were kind of stupid and needed his help, something you couldn't stand.

While, on the other hand, he thought you were just too impulsive and needed to be held back to some extent, he paid attention to you to make sure you were doing everything right — which, deep down, was almost a concern that you would hurt yourself or the kids during training. He knew you saw him as controlling, just as you knew he saw you as impulsive... Didn't those things complement each other, somehow?

That was Professor Xavier's suggestion: if you spent a little more time together, perhaps you would understand how to use these flaws to help each other and become a better duo. It just didn't turn out as expected, quite the opposite. It was important to remember that the other students, especially the kids, could clearly see the way you and Alex treated each other on a daily basis.

That's why they invented that you and he argued so much because, in truth, you loved each other and love and hate go hand in hand, don't they?

The whispers were in the hallways all the time, every time you walked by you could hear someone talking about it and you had to stop yourself from rolling your eyes. The little girls who were head over heels for Alex now practically hated you since, supposedly, he liked you and that was a complete nonsense to you.

“I swear to God,” you sighed, walking beside him to the garden before you both had to take care of another training session. “I'm going to freak out if any more members of your personal-teenage-mutant fan club look at me like I'm the worst being in this mansion.”

Even though it was a bit of an awkward situation, Alex found it funny. He wasn't that affected by the childish jokes or the murmurings going around, but he knew the same wasn't true for you. “Worse being in this mansion? I wouldn't be that radical,” he smirked. “I'd just say one of the worst.”

His words only served to hit another nerve in you; he did it so well, it was almost impressive, if it weren't for the rules, you would have already punched him straight in the face — for now you could content yourself with just giving him a death glare as always.
