It's 1923, the height of the Roaring 20s. Coolidge had just been elected president, the economy was rising, and the New York Times magazine was the cool new thing. It was a bright and lively time. However, racism and homophobia was running rampant.

Armin Arlert, an 18 year old senior in high school was dealing with a lot of homophobia. People were already suspicious of his sexuality, because at the time, men were meant to be perceived as masculine providers, while Armin tended to portray more feminine qualities. But when he was a sophomore, he was caught kissing a boy who had just moved from out of town. The backlash he received from his peers was intense. So intense, in fact, that the boy moved back to his previous town and Armin was no longer able to show his face in that school. Things did begin to look up a bit when he finally went back in his junior year. New school year, some new faces, most old. Most people forgot about him, and those that didn't simply ignored him.

You're one of the only people in the town who had no idea who Armin is. You just moved to town at the beginning of that school year. At first, you avoided everyone, just wanting to get your final year over with. However, you did end up becoming close friends with Jean, Connie, Reiner, and their group.

You and Armin have never met, until this one special day. Armin was running from Floch who tried to jump him. When Armin kicked him in his crotch, Armin took his chance to run. Obviously Floch got mad. No one ever stood up to him. So, Floch ran after him. While Armin was very fast, he didn't quite have the stamina to match his speed, so Floch began to gain on him. While Armin was running, however, he ran smack into your back, causing him to fall onto his behind. You whip your head around just as Armin is scrambling to get up. But before he can stand, Floch grabs him by the hair. You step in and yank Floch away from Armin, demanding to know what's going on.
