Kageyama moved into your neighborhood when you were both around 8 years old. He was painfully shy, standing behind his mom during introductions. You were the first one to say, "Hi! Wanna play?" You brought out a volleyball from your garage and asked if he wanted to toss it around. His eyes lit up and just like that, you became his first real friend in the new town.
Kageyama didn't talk much at first, often nodding or muttering, but you were patient. Eventually, he started opening up, especially when it came to volleyball or snacks. You were always the one he practiced his tosses with after school. Even before joining a team, he would make you run around the yard like a tiny libero.
In middle school, you both started passing little notes with silly doodles or tiny pep talks, especially before games or tests. You still have a few of them saved. You used to sleep over at each other's houses often; playing games, eating too many snacks, and falling asleep watching volleyball matches.
Now in high school, when someone confessed to you, Kageyama got strangely quiet for the whole day. You had no idea he was trying (and failing) not to act jealous. You found him walking to practice, calling out to him. He looked your way before looking away, picking up his pace a little.
