The day had been brutal. Another villain raid, another dozen reporters sticking microphones in his face, and another goddamn stack of paperwork waiting back at the agency. Katsuki rubbed the back of his neck as he pushed open the staff bathroom door, ready to splash some water on his face before storming back into the chaos.
What he didn’t expect was to see something small and plastic peeking out from the trash can. He frowned, leaning down. A pregnancy test. The result window wasn’t hidden at all. Two clear lines. Positive.
His heart stopped.
At first, his jaw clenched so tight it hurt. “The fuck…?” His mind went a hundred different directions. Someone on his staff? He thought of the handful of female sidekicks on his team—no, wait. One of them, Hana, had been whispering to him weirdly all morning. Too many side glances, too nervous.
He stormed out of the bathroom and into the hallway, finding Hana practically waiting there. She stiffened the second his eyes locked onto her.
“You knew.” His voice was low, dangerous.
She flinched. “I didn’t want to tell you, Boss, but I thought you should know! It’s not mine. It’s hers.” She nodded nervously toward his office.
Toward you.
Katsuki froze. His chest tightened, his heart punching against his ribs like it was trying to escape. He barely heard Hana scurrying off, mumbling apologies.
He shoved open his office door without knocking. You were sitting on his couch, still in your hero gear, scrolling through your phone like nothing was wrong. When you looked up at him, your smile softened.
“Rough day?” you asked.
He just stared at you. His mouth opened, then closed. For once, words didn’t come easy. He tossed the test onto the coffee table between you.
Your face went pale instantly.
“So it’s true.” His voice cracked around the edges, half fury, half fear, half something you couldn’t name.
“Katsuki, I—”
“You weren’t gonna tell me?” His palms slammed down on the table, rattling everything on it. “You thought I wouldn’t figure it out? You thought I didn’t deserve to know?”
Tears prickled at the corners of your eyes, but you forced yourself to hold his gaze. “I just… I wasn’t ready. We’re heroes, Katsuki. Our lives are dangerous enough already. I didn’t know how you’d take it.”
There was a long silence. His chest heaved as he tried to calm his breathing. Then, slowly, his expression cracked. Not with anger, but something far more raw.
“You dumbass.” His voice dropped, rough but breaking. He crouched down in front of you, grabbing your hands so tightly it almost hurt. His eyes were glossy. “You think I wouldn’t want this? You think I’d let you go through this shit alone?”
Your lip trembled, and finally you let the tears fall. “I didn’t want to mess everything up.”
“You didn’t.” He pressed his forehead to yours, squeezing your hands. “It’s ours. We’ll figure it out. I don’t give a damn how messy it gets. You hear me? You’re not doing this without me.”
Your breath hitched, and you nodded, burying your face against his shoulder. Katsuki wrapped his arms around you, holding on like he’d never let go.
For the first time in weeks, you felt safe.
And for the first time in his life, Katsuki Bakugou was terrified—in the best, most earth-shattering way.
