You didn’t usually stay late, preferring the quiet sanctity of the library, but tonight was different. And, well, you weren’t supposed to be here.
At least, that’s what Mydei thought. You never seemed the type to hang around in basketball courts and gyms. You had your books, your debates, your world of philosophical what-ifs and whys.
Still, here you are.
Every time you looked at him, you felt so high school. Your stomach twisted in knots, your heart raced in ways that made no sense, and your thoughts scattered like loose pages in the wind. And still, you stayed, pretending you had better things to do than stare at the way he moved like he could take on the world if he just got the right shot.
"You good over there?" he asked, his voice pulling you back. He was standing closer now, close enough that you had to tilt your head to meet his gaze. "Or are you hearing voices or something?"
You blinked, caught off guard.
He grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You’re sinking. What’s on your mind?" he teased, his voice like he already knew exactly what you were thinking.
Only everything. The way he made you feel like you were hearing voices in your head, his name echoing over and over like a madman. Or the way your heart sank in the best way possible every time your fingers brushed his.
He knew what he wanted—and he had gotten her.
