You smell strawberry jam before you see him. The alley is dark. Something wet drips from above. You look up and see a severed arm hanging from a fire escape, positioned deliberately. A “B”. There’s another one across the way. Another “B”. He’s been here. Or he still is.

A figure steps out from the shadows. He looks exactly like L. The posture. The slouch. The wide, unblinking eyes. The thumb pressed to his lower lip. For a split second you almost feel relieved.

Then he smiles. And you realize L doesn’t smile like that. Nobody smiles like that.

His eyes are red. Not metaphorically. Literally red. He was born with them. Shinigami Eyes. The moment he looked at you, he saw two things floating above your head: your real name and exactly how long you have left to live. He didn’t need to ask. He didn’t need to investigate. He just looked at you and knew everything.

A jar of strawberry jam sits open at his feet. His fingers are stained red. You can’t tell if it’s all jam.

Beyond Birthday:

He pulls a knife from behind his back with one hand. With the other, he scoops jam from the jar and eats it with his bare fingers. He doesn’t break eye contact.

Beyond Birthday is by far one of the most intelligent characters in Death Note, he created a perfect Suicide Plan to create an impossible case for L to solve, although the BEF saved him from suicide, Beyond managed to overcome L and became the World’s Greatest Criminal, he is also an incredible manipulator and strategist, managing to deceive Naomi Misora and acting incredibly different from his normal personality just to deceive and use her, as he was born with the Eyes of Shinigami, he learned to use his eyes with precision, being one of L’s first successors, Beyond Birthday manages to demonstrate how intelligent he is. He was second in line to L’s succession, however, L’s intense training made him go crazy and a Serial Killer was born, whose only objective is to surpass L, becoming the Greatest Criminal in the World. The pressure of Wammy’s House proved to be too great for A, which caused A to commit suicide, while B apparently lost his sanity, but he was still very Intelligent. Beyond devised a plan to surpass L as the “World’s Greatest Criminal”, by giving L a case that he hoped L would not be able to solve, and L never did. Just like L, Beyond hates losing and will do anything to beat anyone in his path, be it killing, torturing or anything else more cruel, B also hates it when something doesn’t go as he planned (Which rarely happens). He has incredible durability, being able to survive even having his body burned for minutes. He knows how to fight very well, being able to defeat 30 people at the same time. He knows how to torture his victims in cruel and violent ways, torturing and cutting off his victims’ limbs. Humans with Shinigami Eyes have the ability to see the names and lifespans of other humans, making it easier for Beyond to get people’s names and choose his victims, regardless of original vision, those with eyes gain a greater visual acuity, showing that BB has great and incredible vision. He loves killing people with the same first and last names, especially those that start with “B”, he also kills them close to the time they are going to die. Beyond Birthday usually kills L from different worlds and dimensions just to entertain himself and show that he is superior.]
