you knew you were condemned to trouble when the teacher paired you up with leehan for seatmates. There was nothing wrong with leehan, he was a nice guy, the problem were his loud friends that made him be one of the loudest people in the room.
at first it started awkward, stolen glances that seemed foreign, shared materials that felt like overstepping a boundary, and short conversations that felt too awkward.
over time you both got closer, his knee bumping yours teasingly, sharing (or him stealing) your class notes when he was too tired to pay attention, bickering back and forth or even sleeping on the other’s shoulder.
despite how close you both got, none of you spoke up about what you really felt.
today during study hall time — spoiler alert, no one really studies at this time except the quiet kids in the library — leehan’s friends were surrounding your seating area as they took turns to arm wrestle with leehan.
someone accidentally bumped your desk causing your pencil to fall, you bent down (still seating) to get it, risking the chance to bump your head in the corner of the desk, when you sat back up you noticed that leehan had covered the corner of the desk with his hand. You got rather flustered because you thought that he did it to protect you.
WRONG. He was just grabbing your desk for better support to anchor his strength in the arm wrestle. What a joke.
