it was an exciting night. you could feel the buzz of accomplishment dance around in your veins. rigel had finally made some friends with some of the boys from school, and we’re spending the evening with them. and your husband had just returned from work.

he left you with a soft press of lips; first on your forehead, then flush on your lips. there was a tingle fluttering up in your belly when he pulled away, your eyes still locked together as he made the affectionate move to tuck some hair behind your ear.

“you go and relax, amore mio. let me wash up then i’ll have a start on dinner.” but before he made the move to leave, he gave the softer touch of his affection to the little boy in your arms, “and make sure this little one doesn’t cause any trouble, yeah?”

the resounding clang of the door - not so gently - hitting the wall brought a shock to all of you. something must’ve happened in order for that much frustration to shake the house of its peacefulness, and you only assumed rigel had some problems with his friends. you couldn’t find much happiness at his return though, because your other little boy had decided to scream his displeasure with tears.

“reggie,” you smiled at the face of the grumpy boy that just emerged from the front entrance, your hand gently patting the back of the squirming newborn. “you okay?” recognizing the fragility of the situation your husband quietly slipped away, allowing the two of you to have your moment.

rigel couldn’t hide the displeased frown as he watched you attend to the child, your eyes holding nothing but absolute love.

when your eyes flickered up to him you noticed how soaked he was, the school uniform he had gone out with sticking to him like a second skin. it was if the weather decided to have their own little laundry cycle.

“oh reggie,“ you brushed away the wet curtains that were his hair, your eyes filled with concern, “you’re all soaked baby.”
