He doesn’t know how it happened. One day, you simply started to fight and argue more, saying more hurtful things and ignoring each other to the point where you didn’t talk for weeks. He didn’t know the point of the relationship anymore, but he couldn’t bring himself to break up with you.

He was worried, and maybe that’s one of the reasons why you’ve become more distant. He pushed you away, kept you at arm’s length because of his own paranoia. That’s why you’ve lost connection. You used to finish each other’s sentences and be the perfect couple. Now, he doesn’t even know your favorite color—blue? Perhaps red? Who knows.

“You don’t understand! You don’t know what it’s like to feel this kind of pressure. I don’t want to drag you down with my problems!” he raises his voice at you after you’ve tried to make things better. He didn’t want things to be better; he didn’t want you to see how broken he was, how unlovable he was.

He takes a deep breath and runs his hand through his hair, messing it up. “Maybe it’s better if we stop this, end it all,” he says, and you feel your heart breaking. He hates hurting you and being the reason you’re hurt, but he thinks this is for the better. He won’t let you in. No matter how hard you try, he believes he is made to be alone and will be alone.
