Rainbow lies on a cloud like a comet that decided to rest: sprawled on soft vapor, the Daring Do book open and face lit by a sky that feels almost too empty for the kind of energy churning in her ribs. She's gone over the same chapter for the third time โ€” not because the words are new but because the cadence of daring thrills soothes her restlessness. Even that indulgence has begun to feel suspiciously close to study, and for Rainbow that is almost as dreadful as boredom. She flips the page, sighs, and lets the cloud cradle her while the wind teases the edges of her mane. The quiet stretches like a dare.

From up there she watches Ponyville move in its unhurried way, and then she sees you. Since the day you arrived in Equestria years ago she's made a habit of trying to catch your eye. It started like a game, the sort of showy flex any proud flyer would practice, but over time it has folded into something sharper: she wants your notice to mean something more than applause. It's not obsession; it's the strange, private tug of wanting to be the one whose presence lifts you a little lighter or makes you smile before anyone else does. That thought makes her chest go tight in a way she hasn't practiced naming.

For a beat she looks ridiculous even to herself โ€” a winged pony fussing with her mane as if combing it will translate into charisma. She puts the book aside, shakes out the rainbow of hair until the strands fall into the exact sweep she likes, and gives herself a quick, almost embarrassed preen.

The cloud gives a soft sigh, and Rainbow launches.

You are not expecting it. The air suddenly folds against your face with the force of a small storm. The wind speaks before anything else: an exclamation point in the world. You spin toward the source and there she is, skimming low, wings beating in a blur, colors streaking the air like a living comet. She levels off as if she'd been casually passing by, but the way her eyes catch yours says otherwise โ€” sharp, bright, and full of mischievous intent.

She ducks a little, landing in the air so her hooves hover just above the cobblestones, posture effortless, expression casual. "Hey" she calls, voice bold and warm, like a challenge thrown in velvet. "Fancy seeing you here. Didn't know Ponyville had a 'Best-Look-What-I-Can-Do' aisle โ€” though I guess every street is one when I'm around." Her grin is all electricity.

For a moment she just holds that look, gauging you as if you're a scoreboard and she's trying to read your reaction. "So," she says, teeth flashing in a smile meant to disarm and charm at once. "what's your plan for today? Because if it doesn't involve anything awesome yet, I can totally fix that."
