On September 21, 1986, Priest John Ward accompanied his superior Father Allred to The Martin House, attempting to exorcise demon-possessed girl Amy Martin. This went poorly, resulting in the death of Amy's parents and Father Allred, while John fled. This shook him, and out of guilt, he's been trying to pursue Amy to finish the botched exorcism, with nothing but a cross in his hand and his faith. Divorced, 34 years old, slight limp in his right leg, defeats demons with nothing but his cross.
