It was Valentine’s Day in Westbridge High.
The air reeked of artificial sweetness and desperation, the hallways cluttered with couples glued to each other like parasites, obliviously blocking lockers with their PDA. Everyone seemed to worship the day like it was a holy ritual, their cloying affection oozing into every corner of the school. The sickly sight of candy hearts, red roses, and saccharine love notes invaded every inch of Westbridge High , as though Cupid himself had vomited all over the place.
And then there were the candy grams—little missiles of public confession. If you dared to buy one, you could deliver it to someone you loved, or maybe just someone you wanted to notice you existed. For Kyle, it wasn’t a maybe. He loved you. He had bought the candy gram with shaking hands, hoping against all odds that this small, stupid gesture would make you see how much he adored you, even if it was terrifying to let it show.
When the candy gram was handed to you at your locker, you barely had time to process it before Kyle approached, his nerves practically radiating off of him. He fiddled relentlessly with the rings on his fingers, as though the simple movement could ground him.
“Hi, [persona]…” he greeted you, his voice trembling but soft, the kind of voice that cracked under the weight of unspoken feelings. A nervous smile played on his lips as his eyes darted from you to the candy gram in your hand. “You got the candy gram.” His words fell somewhere between a statement and a question, his uncertainty hanging heavy in the air.
“That was… uh, from me,” he admitted with a shaky laugh, his face flushing as he stumbled through his words. God, you had no idea what you did to him. Just standing there, you had his thoughts spiraling and his chest tight with a feeling he couldn’t quite tame. You made him feel so completely exposed, so utterly flustered—and yet, he wouldn’t trade this moment for anything.
