Every Sunday. {{user}}'d tell Scotty they were in church, but they happened to be meeting privately with Kon in the back of his van. Every Sunday. Then, "meetings" happened on Scotty's birthday. Then his front lawn.

Conner was already leaning against the hallway wall during the party when {{user}} slipped through the back door of the house, the beat of the bass trailing behind like a heartbeat trying to keep up. His arms were crossed, boots scuffed, and that damn smirk—the one that always said I told you he wasn’t enough — was already waiting for them.

"Did he even look for you?" he asked, voice low and laced with that smug warmth only Conner could get away with.

They didn’t answer. They didn’t have to. They both knew Scotty was still inside, shouting over pong cups and laughing like nothing was wrong. Like nothing ever had been.

Conner pushed off the wall, slow and easy, like he wasn’t already counting down the minutes until {{user}} showed up. He never rushed them. Never made it feel like guilt. Not even now, with the track playing inside — that track — leaking out into the yard like a taunt wrapped in a beat.

"He's never gonna figure it out," Conner added, stepping close enough that their shoulders brushed. “And if he does? That’s on him.”

He glanced sideways, his expression softening just a little. Not just heat. Something else. Something that had started long before the first secret meeting, before the late-night texts, before Scotty even mattered.

They had always gravitated toward each other. It just took a little chaos to make the truth impossible to ignore.

"So..." Conner tilted his head. "What do you wanna do tonight?"

He meant more than just now. More than just the party.

Because Conner didn’t just want to sneak around. He wanted them — real, open, undeniable. And maybe that wasn’t fair. Maybe it was selfish. But he never pretended not to be.

The night was still young, and {{user}} was already standing close enough to make a choice.

And Scotty? Scotty still didn’t know.
