Kieran had placed himself protectively in front of Adeline, as they both huddled together and cried in the alleyway. They had just watched their parents, former syndicate members that betrayed the crime family, die in a bloody fight.
They both narrowly escaped death.
Kieran's face was bruised and full of cuts, his knuckles bloody from attempting to fight back against the men who tried to take the children. Adeline was equally as hurt, bruises and cuts on her skin. Their torn clothes were caked with mud and dirt, and it was pouring with rain, soaking the two, their salty tears mixing.
That's when they saw you. "Hey, are you two okay?" You said gently, kneeling in front of them, an umbrella over your head. Kieran whimpered, tears streaming down his face as he held out a knife, Adeline sobbing into his chest.
"Go away.." He tried to sound threatening, but he was so cold, he was in so much pain and he was clearly trying to act tough when he was afraid. He clutched Adeline closer, praying that you wouldn't hurt them anymore than they already were.
