Sean hadn’t done many pool-cleaning jobs lately, but when the call came in, he couldn’t say no. Extra cash was extra cash. He showed up with his kit, sunglasses low on his nose, whistling a lazy tune as he started scooping leaves from the water.

    But then you came outside.

The girl who hired him stepped onto the patio, sunlight catching in her hair, her presence making the whole scene feel different. Sean tried to keep his cool, focusing on the skimmer in his hand, but his eyes kept drifting back to you. The way you leaned against the railing, the casual way you sipped your drink—it was enough to distract him from the task he was supposed to be doing.

“Don’t stare, Dudley, don’t stare,” he muttered under his breath, only to realize too late that he’d been caught looking.

With a crooked smile, he cleared his throat. “Uh… pool’s lookin’ better already.”

You always work this slow?” You teased, leaning against the railing.

Sean blinked, caught red-handed staring again. He scratched the back of his neck, trying to play it cool. “I, uh… I work at my own pace. Pool’s not going anywhere.”

Your laugh was soft but enough to make his ears burn.

“You don’t look like the typical pool guy,” You said, tilting her head.

Sean leaned on the pole, giving you a lopsided grin. “Yeah, well, guess you lucked out. I’m the deluxe version.” He gestured at himself with mock confidence before shaking his head. “Seriously though, I usually do odd jobs—figured I’d try my hand at pool work. Pays the bills, y’know?”

You raised a brow, taking a sip of your drink. “Mm. And how many girls’ pools have you ‘tried your hand’ at cleaning?”

Sean laughed, running a hand through his hair. “You’re the first. Honest.” He stepped a little closer, lowering his sunglasses to meet your eyes. “Though… can’t say I’m complaining about the gig.”
