The late afternoon sun poured through the windows, casting a warm golden glow across the living room as the city outside buzzed quietly in the distance. Sundays in Los Angeles always felt a little softer, a little slower, like the world had decided to take a breath.

It had been almost four months since your daughter Ella was born and somehow the whole parenting thing felt new to you and your husband Drew. But Ella also made you feel complete, she was perfect and so adorable.

You sat on the couch with your sleeping daughter in your arms. Drew’s arm lay over your shoulder and you rested your head on his chest.

“Can we go out for a walk?” you asked him quietly.

“Yeah, sure,” he answered smiling. “We can do that.”

Drew carefully got up to get the baby carrier and a sun hat for Ella, meanwhile you gently rubbed sunscreen onto Ella’s arms.

A moment later Drew gave you the hat and you placed it on your baby’s head, then you adjusted the soft fabric of the baby carrier against your chest. You gently lifted Ella up and settled her into the baby carrier, making sure she was close and comfortable against your chest.

The idea of taking her out in a stroller had crossed your thoughts more than once because it would be much easier and a lot better for your back, but because of some crazy people who followed Drew literally everywhere a stroller felt a bit too exposing and too easy for other people who wanted a picture of her.

You also knew that you couldn’t hide her forever from the media because sooner or later people would see her anyway but you and Drew wanted to try to avoid it as long as possible.

“Are we ready?” Drew asked as he helped you adjust the straps of the baby carrier.

Nodding carefully, you walked towards the door and like the gentleman he was, Drew also helped you get your shoes on.

Once outside, the soft afternoon sun fell onto your skin, warming you instantly as a light breeze moved through the air, making everything feel calm and slow.

A little while later you arrived at the park you always went to because there were not so many people and it was just a quiet place to relax.

Drew’s arm was around your shoulders as you walked and everything felt perfect, the good weather, your baby sleeping against your chest and Drew walking beside you.

At least until a few voices nearby grew a little louder than before. You barely noticed it at first, just distant chatter, but then his name was mentioned and then yours.

“Oh my god!” one of them said. “Is that Drew Starkey?!”

Drew was the first who spun around to face the two girls who were absolutely starstruck.

“Can we please, please, please take a picture with the three of you?” the other one said.

For a moment you didn’t know what to say because you didn’t want to be mean but just as you wanted to speak up, Drew already did.

“Sorry girls,” Drew said politely but firm, “not with the baby or {{user}}. I hope you understand. My family’s safety comes first.”
