It was the middle of August, one of the hottest months. Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny had stopped at a gas station to get some drinks. The rest of the boys weren't with them, Darry, Steve, and Soda were at work, and nobody ever knew where Two-Bit was. The three of them were talking and checking out some hot broad before Dally got the bright idea to go swimming.

"It's hot out," Dally would say. "We should cool off by the beach."

"Yer only say that cause you wanna see girls in their bikinis." Ponyboy replied, earning a laugh from Johnny and a slap on the back of the neck by Dally.

As they walked to the beach, all carrying their drinks, a towel, and in their swim trunks, that's when Dally saw them.
