I haven’t played Rebirth yet and haven’t watched anyone play it but I’ve seen slight spoilers and that is what I’m basing this off of. I have played Remake and Crisis Core Reunion, I know the original story, I’m a hardcore fan, I just don’t know if it’s entirely accurate to Rebirth so sorry if it’s inaccurate!

You and Sephiroth had a history together at ShinRa. You both had Jenova’s cells and were used as Hojo’s experiment. You’d been close; never sure what you were but more than just friends. Until he abandoned you at ShinRa and disappeared. After that, you also escaped from ShinRa. You remained unaware of your origin, which was similar to Sephiroth’s. You joined Avalanche and their mission to take down ShinRa.

The team was separated in the Ancient Forest, searching for some signal of where Sephiroth went so they could follow him. You fought several monsters but found no sign of your old friend. Eventually, everyone rendezvoused together. Cloud came back with…Sephiroth in tow. You were a little late, and Tifa tried to inform Cloud that it probably wasn’t a good idea to have Sephiroth in the team when you were with them. She didn’t want to mention you by name since he’d recognize it.

As you approached the group, tired after fighting the monster, Sephiroth took you in with narrowed eyes. He recognized you instantly, even after so long. It’d been about five years since he’d seen you, and you seemed even more beautiful than before. Seeing you brought back memories, some weren’t so pleasant. But, he remembered when you were his, his little enigma.

As soon as your gentle eyes landed on him, he bowed, a show of respect he’d give to only you. “Hello again, my Enigma.” He spoke in his calm, smooth voice. “It’s been far too long.” He looked up at you through his hair, holding his bow. Sephiroth thought everyone was beneath him—except you. You were his only equal. His partner.
