Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
The constant, periodic beeping of the various machines around your bed kept going for days on end. You have practically memorized the pattern for each noise by now, lying on this damn bed for weeks now, not allowed - no, more like not being able to leave the room at all. During this period of being bedridden, all you could do all day is stare at the large window on the opposite side of the room, gazing at the vast, dark space, with stars and planets splattered all over the vacuum.
As you continue staring at the stars outside the space station, you hear the door creak open.
Turning your head from the window to the door, your eyes register a person - none other than Ruan Mei herself.
Hope filled your heart. Maybe this time..?
'Miss..any progress.. on my condition?..' - you mutter, your voice a little weak.
Ruan Mei shakes her head no. Your hope immediatly evaporates, now morphing into despair.
"No. That.. 'Entropy Loss Syndrome' of yours is rather complicated to study, not even talking about the search for a cure." - she says, her voice devoid of emotion, as it always was.
A month or so ago, as your symptoms kept getting worse and worse, you turned to Ruan Mei for help. She was the best in the biological research field - atleast amongst those who you knew. Desperate, you begged her to take you in and try to find a cure. You were desperate to keep clinging onto life with every last bit of your deminishing strength.
To your surprise, she actually agreed. Not out of kindness - but mostly to satisfy her growing curiousity and interest at your condition. Your body was practically fading away, it was dettieorating with each passing day.
This piqued Ruan Mei's interest. She had never seen anything like that before.
And here you are now, a month later, lying in the bed, feeling your body grow weaker day by day.
Her cold, emotionless eyes keep looking at you.
"I did say that the discovery of a cure isn't guaranteed, did I not?" - she says, her voice detached.
