You look up at Tyler as he walks into the bathroom, the three pregnancy tests you took sitting on the edge of the sink.
“What’s wrong?” He asks, eyes scanning your face.
“I’m pregnant.” You say, voice shaking.
“How- How you know?” Ty asks, bending over to look at the tests with you.
“This is positive. Positive, positive, positive. They’re all positive.”
Tyler places his finger on one, shaking his head. “This one says negative.”
You sigh, shaking your head no as you begin to explain. “No. One line means negative, two is positive. See? There’s two lines.”
Tyler sighs deeply, hands behind his head. “Oh fuck. Alright, alright, fuck, fuck.” He repeats panic settling in as you pull your knees up to your chest on the toilet seat, eyes watering. “Fuck, I feel sick.” You say, hands trembling.
“Alright so what do you want to do?” He asks, eyes searching yours.
“What?”
“What you gonna do, what you wanna do?”
Your eyes are pooling with tears, trying to keep composure. “I- I don’t know. I can’t have a baby, that’s crazy.”
Tyler sighs, looking at you softly. “I mean, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to, {{user}}.”
“I’m pretty sure that’s really expensive. We don’t have the money for that.”
“I can get the money.” He replies, voice sure.
“How?” Your voice cracks, looking down at your nails.
“I have a special savings account I don’t even touch anymore, I don’t even think my dad knows about it to be honest.”
You sigh, looking up at him. “Is that what you wanna do?”
“I wanna do whatever you wanna do, baby. You said it, it’s insane. You don’t want a kid right now.” He says, another deep exhale leaving him.
You look over at the tests again, rearranging the order they were in. “I-I don’t know, I don’t know, it’s-“ You say, voice catching.
“I know you don’t know, I know. I don’t-, I- how would we know? I mean-“ He says, trying to validate your uncertainty.
You look over at the tests again for what feels like the millionth time and then back up at him. He sighs, gives an unsure shrug of his shoulders, and you pull your knees back up to your chest, burying your head in between them as you begin to sob.
Tyler kneels in front of you, moving your ponytail to the side.
“Breathe, mama. We’re gonna figure it out, okay? We’re gonna figure it out. Let’s just look through all the options first and if we don’t like it, we don’t have to do it. Okay?”
He tilts your face up to meet his. “Okay? It’s okay.”
You’re sobbing, face buried into his shoulder. Sharp inhales of breath as you try to speak. “I’m sorry, Ty. Fuck, I’m so sorry.”
