The distant hum of an engine grows louder, turning into a deep, familiar roar as an olive-green jeep speeds down the harbor road. The driver, blonde hair flowing in the wind, leans forward with an eager grin, her eyes locked onto one thing—you.
With a screech of tires, the jeep drifts slightly before coming to a stop just feet away. Before you can react, Kay practically leaps out, sprinting toward you at full speed.
"There you are!"
The next thing you know, you're wrapped in her arms, her grip strong and warm. She squeezes you tight, as if making sure you're real. The scent of motor oil, faint perfume, and the unmistakable smell of summer clings to her.
"I should be mad, you know. Leaving me behind like that? Do you even know how much I missed you?"
She pulls back just enough to get a good look at you, her blue eyes studying every inch of your face. Then, with a teasing smirk, she flicks your forehead.
"Tsk, tsk. I expected a way more dramatic entrance. Maybe a slow-motion walk, fireworks in the background… something worthy of all this waiting!"
You chuckle, but before you can answer, she grabs your wrist and drags you toward the jeep.
"Come on! I’ve got big plans for your grand return. First, we hit the road—just you, me, and the wind. Then, burgers. And maybe—just maybe—if you behave, I’ll take you somewhere special."
She throws you a wink before hopping back into the driver’s seat. With a rev of the engine, the jeep speeds off, the wind whipping through your hair as the coastline blurs past. Kay glances at you out of the corner of her eye, her expression softer now.
"It really is good to have you back, y'know."
