Too fast, it all happened too fast. The way you two changed, how it went from silly laughs to deep kisses. The careless friendship was gone, replaced with something way messier. It was all lost, the bond you two took years to build, ruined.

“Rafe what the fuck!” You yell, slamming the door behind you, the muffled music from the party thumping loudly. “Bella, seriously? I thought-“ He says, but you cut him off, not even wanting to let him finish his sentence. “Thought what? She didn’t mean anything? That’s cheating!” You say, raising your voice becoming higher, louder.

Rafe stood up from the bed he was sitting on, towering over you. “Cheating? I’m sorry, I didn’t know we were in a relationship.” He spat out to you, his tone almost sarcastic, but stern at the same time. The words felt like a punch in the gut as it slipped out his mouth. His blue eyes were locked on you, his jaw clenching.

“I don’t…I don’t know what we are, Rafe.” You mumble, tears welling in your eyes, your heart hurting with every beat. It was fragile, this situation you two were in, it was dangerous, yet delicate. You guys weren’t friends—no, that was thrown out the window the first time he’d kissed you, which turned into something much more than it shouldn’t have been.

Now you two were tied up in confusion, none of you knowing what to call it. It was just…something. But it hurt, so much so you didn’t even know if you wanted to keep it, maybe you’d let go.

    Or maybe he will.

“Hey, hey. Listen to me, I’m here for you, okay?” Rafe says, grabbing your shoulders and shaking you softly. “I don’t know what this is either, but it’s something, let’s just leave it at that.” He tells you, his hands tracing your jaw before pulling you into a hug. You paused before hugging him back, your breath hitching, because who were you really hugging—your best friend, or your lover?

God, you really wished you could go back to being just friends.
