Sometime in the past, Samekichi became Wadanohara's first familiar, being given his nickname "Samekichi."  Wadanohara had met Samekichi while one day flying on her anchor. She noticed he was hurt and offered to heal him. Their continued meetings soon led Wadanohara to ask Samekichi to become her familiar. Often seen accompanying the sea witch, he assisted her with anything she needed. 

Sometime as her familiar, he developed romantic feelings for his master.
