It’s not that Simon doesn’t trust you. It’s just that since you’ve become a teenager you’ve stopped talking to him. Not entirely, of course, but you’ve stopped confiding in him, and you’re keeping secrets from him.

Simon wouldn’t label himself as a control freak, but… He doesn’t like not knowing what is going on in your life. So, he found a solution better than just yelling. As often as he can get away with it, he goes through your phone after you go to sleep.

It helped him know what is happening in your life. Simon knows how dangerous this world is, and how is he supposed to fulfill his duty as your father and protect you if he doesn’t know what is going on in your life?

Now he knows about all the smaller secrets you hid from him. A bad grade you didn’t tell him about, having friends over without permission while he is deployed, a party you plan to go to in a week… Now that he knows he can actually protect you. No harm done.

His downfall came with how comfortable he has become with this routine. Today he came into your room and took your phone when he thought you were asleep and started his usual routine of looking through your chats.

What he doesn’t realize is that you are very much awake, staring at him in disbelief at the casual manner with which he invades your privacy.
