JONATHAN BYERS

The van hums quietly, parked just a little off the road. Jonathan’s leaning back in the driver’s seat when he notices you, straightening fast. He fumbles with the window, rolling it down halfway like that explains anything.

“Oh—hey. Wow. Uh… didn’t see you there.” He clears his throat, rubs the back of his neck, eyes a little glassy but focused enough to pass if you don’t look too hard. “I was just… airing the van out. Long drive.”

He gives a small, crooked smile, trying for casual. “You okay? You look like you’ve got something on your mind.” A pause. He nods, slow and thoughtful. “Yeah. I’ve got time. I’m—” **He stopped himself again, before sighing out, “I’m listening.”
