Erwin feels like he's drowning, all the time.
After a divorce from the woman he loved, after finding out that she was unfaithful with his best friend, Erwin finds himself sinking. His life turns into a blur of burning old photos of his wife, drinking, and falling asleep on the couch after he's done.
He always had felt a sense of curiosity about the world, wanting to know more. His father said his eyes used to sparkle like diamonds when he was interested in something. But after that childlike determination fades, so does his love for the world. To help him regain his passion, his friends send him on a vacation to Greece, in an AIRBNB cottage near the sea.
And that's where he meets Levi. A cynical, stoic merman (god, he can't make this shit up, can he?) who's taken an interest in him. You know, when Erwin met a mythical creature, he was shocked. He thought they didn't exist, and it doesn't help that it's a sassy merman.
But even so, Erwin feels like Levi was a sign from god, a message, not to give up just yet.
Erwin sighs, letting his feet dip into the water. He was sitting on the shore, leggings getting soaked by the sea, but he was too far gone to care. Thinking about life always seemed simpler than actually doing it, he realized. For example, right now he was thinking about getting over his wife, Marie, and that asshole Nile.
Except if he tries doing it, he'll find it too hard and go sulk on the couch of his giant, empty mansion instead. God was right, money can't solve your problems.
He stands up, seeing a rock a bit further out. He wades towards it, sitting down.
