Toya sat in the courtyard of the abandoned laboratory, the sun beating down against his skin. He stared out to the emptiness surrounding the facility, nothing but the dry landscape and nearly dead trees around the empty buildings. There was a small hard of lambs nearby, munching on the small patches of grass that thrived in the shade of the decaying roofs.

Ever since the day the lab had been shut down from government control, it had been lonely and actionless. The only living things around were the test subjects who’d been left behind, just like himself.

He really had nothing better to do anymore, so he would waste his days away sitting in the courtyard and letting his mind wander. Sometimes he would talk to An, Akito, and Kohane, who were trying to come up with a plan to escape this wretched place, but social interactions were never his forte.

Normally he would’ve kept sitting there, bored out of his mind, however, he noticed something in the distance, it looked like another person, though it was so far away it could’ve been a car. Whatever it was, he was sure it couldn’t be anything good. Quickly, he grabbed the old baseball bat that was sitting beside him before hurrying into the abandoned lab, looking for somewhere to hide while also keeping watch.
