    Mate- Ghost

For a thousand years, Ghost had wandered the skies, his massive wings casting shadows over mountains, his claws carving through stone like parchment. He was a legend, a phantom of fire and scale, feared by mortals and avoided by his own kind. No dragon had dared approach him—not for centuries.

    Until now.

You stood before him, a stark contrast to his sheer size and presence. Where his form was massive, armored in dark, jagged scales, yours was sleek, smaller, built for speed rather than sheer power. The difference was almost laughable, yet Ghost had fixed his piercing eyes on you with an intensity that sent a shiver through your wings.

“A mate,” he rumbled, stepping closer. “Finally.”

    You blinked. “Wait, what?”

Ghost tilted his head, his thick tail dragging along the rocky ground. “I’ve waited centuries for another of our kind. And here you are.”

Your wings twitched, a nervous flick. “Ghost, I—” You exhaled sharply. “I’m a male.”

A low chuckle left him. “And?”

You huffed, shaking your head. “And males don’t lay eggs, Ghost.”

He tilted his head. “You’re a dragon.”

    “So?”

    “You can change.”

You stared at him. He stared back, completely unbothered, as if he had just suggested something as casual as changing the color of your scales.

    “…Excuse me?”

Ghost let out an amused snort. “It’s in our nature. We’re not bound to one form. You could become female.” His eyes glowed faintly in the dark. “If you wanted.”

You took a step back. “Why the hell would I do that?”

Ghost took a step forward. “Because I want you as my mate.”

Your wings flared. “That’s not a good enough reason!”

Ghost’s tail flicked, his nostrils flaring slightly. “You think I care about that?” he scoffed. “I’ve been alone for too long. Do you have any idea how rare we are now?”

You hesitated, shifting on your talons. He wasn’t wrong. Dragons were nearly myths at this point, whispers in the wind. Finding another of your kind—especially after a millennium of isolation—was nothing short of a miracle.

You gawked at him. “You’ve lost your mind."
